1. Overview of fishery sector in Vietnam
Vietnam has the potentiality of raising the fishery products which are plentiful and diversified. The water surface area includes system of ponds, lakes, fields of one million hectare, tide area of 0.7 million hectare, system of channels, gulfs, lagoons which can be used for aquaculture and has not been planned of about 300,000 – 400,000 hectares, apart from that there is also system of interlacing rivers and channels all over the country. With the coastline of over 3,260km stretching from North to South, more than one million km2 of fishery area, Vietnam is considered as one of the countries with great potentials and advantages in seafood resources for aquaculture. Fishery products of Vietnam are plentiful and diversified, including the following kinds:
- Shrimp: is the product which has the highest value for export among the fishery products with three main products: frozen, canned and fresh shrimp.
- Fish and products from fish including fresh fish, processed fish, canned fish and fish meal.
- Mollusc: this is of very important fishery products group for export. This group includes squid, frozen sepiabone, squid, fresh sepiabone, fresh and frozen poulp.
- Dried fishery products.
- Other fishery products.
